Purpose of the Job
- Manages, maintains and increases the value of the Umbogintwini services portfolio on behalf of AECI Umbogintwini, consistent with strategic plans, policies, procedures and other mandates
- Develops and enhances management structures and mechanisms to meet agreed strategic plans.
- Promotes and conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner whilst safeguarding the integrity of AECI and AECI Property Services
Roles and Responsibilities
1.Utilities & Infrastructure Management
- Oversee utility services including electricity, steam, water, sewage, and effluent systems.
- Ensure reliable, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of all utilities to site users.
2. Environmental Management
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
- Implement and monitor environmental sustainability initiatives.
3. Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage relationships with local communities, authorities, and NGOs.
- Act as the decision-maker regarding external engagements on behalf of AECI Property Services/AECI Limited.
4. Laboratory Services Oversight
- Ensure laboratory services meet operational and compliance requirements.
- Support quality assurance and process efficiency through lab operations.
5. Rail Operations Management
- Oversee rail-related activities to ensure safe and efficient transport operations.
6. Safety, Health, Environment & Security (SHE)
- Lead loss prevention strategies, including safety, health, environmental, and security functions.
- Ensure achievement of company SHE goals.
7. Financial & Business Performance
- Accountable for achieving the AECI Property Services (APS) TP budget.
- Authorise financial expenditure up to R1,500,000.
8. Policy Development & Governance
- Develop and authorise policies, procedures, and objectives across all AECI Property Services departments/sections.
- Ensure compliance with company governance frameworks.
9. Emergency Management (EMPRO)
- Take control of emergency situations promptly.
- Coordinate all services and auxiliary functions outside the affected area’s normal command structure.
10. Asset Management & Strategy
- Develop strategies to protect and optimise AECI assets.
- Ensure assets remain commercially viable and operationally efficient.
11. Human Capital Management
- Determine appropriate manpower levels for multidisciplinary teams.
- Ensure staffing aligns with AECI’s Employment Equity (EE) Policy.
12. Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement
- Authorise and implement operational controls to improve efficiency, profitability, and asset integrity
Educational Qualifications and Experience
- BSc or BTech degree (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering)
- GCC Mechanical or Electrical (advantageous)
- Minimum of ten years engineering and commercial experience of which at least five years in a management capacity
- Minimum of five years’ experience in an industrial chemical environment.
- Workings of government and community structures
- Sound working knowledge of all aspects of a large manufacturing site
- Up-to-date on legal/mandatory issues relating to environmental, OSH Act and LRA issues
- Essentials of business; competence with respect to analyses and interpretation of financial statements
