Laboratory Technician

Purpose of Job
To provide a timeous analytical service to the companies within the Umbogintwini Industrial Complex (UIC) process plants and to external customers to the required standards of precision, accuracy and output, according to predetermined procedures and methods
Roles and Responsibilities
- Raw material analysis
- In-process and final product analysis
- Reporting results in the required format timeously as per Sampling, Testing and reporting (STR) schedules
- Retention and disposal of samples
- Carries out investigations and analytical method development
- Maintain a high standard of safety and good housekeeping and routinely carry out SHE audits
- Participate in proficiency testing (PT) schemes
- Actively involved in method validation
- Provide supervision of in-service trainee students (mentoring) which includes, but not limited to, projects (from proposal to completion)
- Submission of data counts for cost recovery
- Maintain equipment in allocated areas
- Calibrations and service of testing equipment
- Preparing of samples to be outsourced to third party Labs
- Reporting non-conformances; initiate nonconformance reports
- Reporting of near misses and incidents
- Reporting results on National on-line platform (where applicable)
Qualifications and Experience
- National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (or similar qualification) with at least three years practical laboratory experience
- Computer literacy – MS Office suite
- Knowledge of spectroscopy applications, methods and techniques
- Knowledge of Laboratory Safety Protocols
- Knowledge of SANAS 17025 accreditation system
