Technical Officer

1. REPORTING LINE

The Technical Officer will report to the Senior Technical Officer.

Location: MMG - Khoemacau Copper Mine Site

2. CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To carry out all the technical services and related training at Khoemacau mine. To manage all the quality and customer focus for the site.

3. SCOPE AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The core responsibilities and accountabilities include:

• Implementation of value-add projects for Khoemacau Mine and ensuring that they are successfully completed and signed off by the customer
• Oversee and coordinate all product conversions and introductions to the customer
• Conduct research and trials and generate recommendations to the customers for improved blasting practices
• Communicate and interpret the blast design data to customer and ensure competent operation of the blasting equipment
• To provide technical support and training to the customer and AECI employees
• Liaise with the customer on all relevant technical issues
• Attend to customer complaints, problems and issues relating to quality and performance of the explosives and then provide technical feedback both verbally and in a written report form.
• Generate post-blast reports in accordance with client requirements
• Compile volumes budget and forecasts as required
• Ensure AECI Botswana meets all its technical-related contractual obligations.
• Assist in developing and implementing marketing strategies to meet company’s objectives and vision
• Contribute to company’s strategic thinking and decision-making
• Assist in implementation and maintenance of World Class System within the company.
• Oversee the Product Quality management for the business
• Provide product stewardship to all the company’s customers
• Governance, Policies and Procedures Compliance
• Any other duty that may be assigned

5. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES

The incumbent should have at least the following:

• The incumbent should be at least a Degree in Mining Engineering or mining-related discipline
• At least 3 years underground mining experience
• Strong Blasting Technical Skills
• Have good interpersonal skills and be able to interact with customers and operational staff in a courteous and professional manner
• Have strong Sales and Marketing Skills
• Be in possession of a valid driver’s license
• AECI Explosives Engineers’ Certificate
• Computer skills including AECI Blasting Software
• Presentation and Training skills
• Valid Botswana Underground Blasting License
• The incumbent must have knowledge of underground blasting as well as have a good knowledge of all products used.
