POSITION DETAILS
Contract Type: 10 Months Fixed Term Contract
Location: MMG - Khoemacau Copper Mine - Plutus Project
- CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
This position exists to provide technical support to the customer, promote safe and efficient use of explosives, interpret blast design data for the customer, investigate bad blasts, conduct and implement value-add projects, manage magazine management, manage customer complaints system, facilitate technical training & refreshers and perform any other relevant technical duties for the site.
- SCOPE AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The core responsibilities and accountabilities include:
- Provide blasting-related technical support to the customer
- Supervise the team based at Plutus Mine
- Manage explosives usage and forecast in order to plan effectively in short term
- Customer relationship management
- Manage the maintenance of Plutus based MMUs
- Drive and promote safe, environmentally friendly and efficient use of explosives at all times
- Introduce and conduct value-add projects for the customer
- Facilitate and manage product conversions and introductions
- Conduct research and generate recommendations to customers for improved, safer and efficient blasting practices
- Communicate and interpret blast design data to customer
- Ensure competent operation of blasting equipment and facilitating blasting control equipment audit and maintenance
- Liaison with the customer on all relevant technical issues
- Conduct technically related training and occasional refreshers to the customer to enhance safe and efficient use of explosives
- Product Quality management for the site
- OPEX or World Class system implementation and maintenance
- Performance of relevant SAP ECC roles
- Facilitate blast audits
- Participation in site stock management and cycle counts
- Assist the Site Manager on cost management
- Responsible for SHE management and enforcement of all relevant company, legislative and statutory standards or policies in his/her section
- Responsible for preparation of all magazine related reports
- Bad blasts investigations and recommendations
- Post blast analysis and recommendations for improvements
- Any other technical related duties for the site

- KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES
The incumbent should have at least the following:
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or Mining related discipline
- At least five years’ experience in an Explosives Handling Mining environment, three of which were at a similar or higher role
- Strong blasting technical skills
- Be in possession of a valid driver’s License
- Be a Botswana Citizen
- Have computer skills
- Be in possession of a valid Open pit Blasting License
- Presentation and report writing skills
- Must be fluent in both Setswana and English
- Good understanding of the Explosives Act and, the Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act (MQWM) and other relevant legislative requirements
- Knowledge of and experience in AECI products and/or certificate in any of AECI technical training is an added advantage
