Purpose of the job

To conduct diagnosing, repairs and maintenance of electrical systems on all fleet and auxiliary equipment  by using professional installation, maintenance and troubleshooting techniques  ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and safety for continuous operations. 

Roles and responsibilities

  • To diagnose and undertake electrical repairs on a wide variety of vehicles including LDV, forklifts and MMU’s to ensure on time servicing. 
  • To undertake electrical installation of accessories and ancillary equipment on a wide variety of vehicles to ensure equipment is in good working condition. 
  • To perform diversified auto electrical work on all automobile and related equipment, such as servicing, installing batteries and terminals, repairing and adjusting lights, and repairing generators and starters to ensure equipment are in good working condition. 
  • To test and repair or fix new digital control systems including ABS controls to ensure good functioning systems always. 
  • To determine malfunction of electrical system by visual inspection of vehicle/equipment and coordinate with workshop and site in-charge on day-to-day activities. 
  • To test instruments and read circuit diagrams to find electrical faults, adjust engine control systems and timing to make sure vehicles are running at peak performance. 
  • To test, recondition, and replace faulty alternators, generators, starter motors, and related items such as voltage regulators and batteries, and repair or replace faulty ignition systems, electrical wiring, fuses, lamps, and switches. 
  • To ensure general servicing is conducted on both MMU's and Light Vehicles to ensure fleet is in good working condition for operational needs in collaboration with engineering support team.        

Knowledge and Experience

• Minimum WASSCE, NVTI certificate, Electrical Technician Part 1 or 2 or equivalent

• Minimum of 5 years’ proven record of auto electrical works experience for light and heavy-duty vehicles in a safe manner  

• Advanced vocational certification/training in auto electrical works 

•Minimum of Mincom Technician Certification

•Strong understanding of vehicle electrical systems and diagnostics

•Ability to use diagnostic tools and computerized testing equipment

•Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics

•Must be eligible to drive and hold valid driver’s license class D.

• Knowledge and understanding of Explosives Act and Regulation.

•Thoroughness and good sense of meticulousness

• Must have committed attitude and good track record towards onsite Health and Safety standards. 

• Team player and good interpersonal skills
