Service Specialist

Purpose of the Job

To ensure the continuous operational stability, safety compliance, and profitability of key mining accounts through expert technical management of water treatment systems and the delivery of high-value service level agreements.

Roles and Responsibilities

• SHEQ Compliance: Strictly enforce Zero Harm protocols, ensuring all water treatment activities comply with company and site safety standards.
• Risk Mitigation: Identify and proactively manage operational, health, and environmental risks associated with water treatment and chemical handling.
• Training and Mentoring: Provide technical guidance to site operators regarding safe handling of chemicals and optimal system control procedures.
• Water Treatment Optimization: Monitor and adjust water treatment chemical programs to ensure peak system performance and adherence to specifications.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct routine water analysis and audits to guarantee compliance with internal quality benchmarks and regulatory requirements.
• Data Reporting: Generate accurate, timely technical reports detailing system performance, chemical consumption, and overall operational water metrics.
• Performance Monitoring: Utilize dashboard metrics to track operational KPIs and provide feedback on performance against predefined expectations
• Technical Troubleshooting: Provide rapid on-site technical support to resolve water quality issues or mechanical failures in the treatment process.
• Chemical Inventory Control: Manage on-site chemical stock levels, forecasting replenishment needs to prevent supply chain disruptions or inventory wastage.
• Profitability Management: Track and manage project costs to ensure chemical application remains within defined budgetary and margin targets.
• Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the preventive maintenance schedule for all dosing pumps, controllers, and monitoring instrumentation on customer sites.
• Project Administration: Maintain meticulous documentation for all site visits, equipment calibrations, and incident reports to ensure audit readiness.
• Business Excellence: Implement and utilize standardized company methodologies to drive continuous improvement in all water treatment processes.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary technical liaison between company management and mining site operational leadership teams.
• Customer Retention: Build and maintain strong relationships with site stakeholders to ensure contract renewal and long-term partnership success.
• Liquidity Management: Monitor debtor days and credit control to ensure timely payment and overall healthy project cash flow.
• Growth Identification: Identify opportunities for service expansion or new product applications to increase total revenue within existing accounts.
• Strategic Alignment: Ensure all service activities reflect company "BIGGER" values and support the broader AECI strategic objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Qualification: National Diploma or BTech in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, or related technical fields (NQF Level 6/7).
• Experience: Minimum 5–8 years of hands-on experience in industrial water treatment, specifically within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Advanced ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical or chemical plant upsets independently.
• Specialized Expertise: Proven expertise in managing cooling towers, boilers, and process water circuits, including chemical dosing and control automation.
• Stakeholder Management: Experience interacting with senior mining personnel (Plant Managers/Engineers) and facilitating technical training for site operators.
• Legal & Safety: Ability to be appointed as an 8.2.i legal representative in terms of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Analytical Skills: Proficient in on-site chemical analysis, data interpretation, and the use of digital monitoring and reporting platforms.
• Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated experience in managing account profitability, stock forecasting, and identifying "Total Cost of Ownership" (TCO) savings.
• Driver’s License: Valid, Code B (08) driver’s license; must be comfortable with extensive regional travel (Limpopo/Mpumalanga).
• Professional Conduct: High level of self-discipline and "Zero Harm" safety leadership, as the role operates with minimal direct supervision.
