Senior Process Assistant

Purpose of the job
The Senior Process Assistant is responsible for supporting safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations during assigned shifts. The role involves monitoring plant equipment, handling raw materials and finished products, maintaining housekeeping standards, assisting with production activities, and responding to emergencies in line with operational and safety requirements.
Required outputs: Functional
- Assist other process controllers in operating the plant
- Provide shift cover as SPA by monitoring plant and equipment within the scope of authority
- Perform routine inspections of plant equipment and site to ensure operations remain within operating limits
- Identify and report any abnormal equipment or process conditions
- Clean and maintain equipment and work areas to required housekeeping standards
- Complete shift logs, batch tickets, and data sheets accurately and on time
- Measure, mix, and dose chemicals and/or raw materials into mixing or reactor vessels
- Draw product and process samples and deliver them to the laboratory for quality testing
- Run off finished products into bulk road tankers, drums, flow bins, or other approved containers
- Ensure correct product labels and batch numbers are applied to all drums and mini-bulks
- Clean final product drums, mini-bulks, and flow bins
- Receive and off-load raw materials from bulk road tankers
- Remove empty drums, bulk bags, and flow bins from the plant to designated disposal sites
- Change filters and strainers as required
- Clear blockages in equipment and pipelines
- Operate forklifts and hoists safely (where licensed and authorized)
- Perform tasks involving working at heights in accordance with safety procedures
- Act as first line of defence in the event of fire or other plant emergencies
- Assist the day shift team leader when required
- Perform any other related duties as assigned from time to time
Qualifications, Knowledge and Requirements
• Grade 12 with mathematics and Physical Science
• NQF 2 Plant Operation – advantageous
• Minimum one-year experience in chemical production environment
• Chemical Engineering diploma or related qualification will be added as an essential advantage
