Purpose of the Job

 

The Vice President Manufacturing plays a pivotal role in managing and leading the manufacturing and supply portfolio within AECI Mining (Chemicals or Explosives), while also spearheading initiatives to facilitate international growth through effectively designing, building and deploying capital equipment (Bulk emulsion plants, MMU’s, PCU pumps etc.) globally.

 

 

Required outputs: Functional

 

Financial and Budget Management

  • Prepare the annual Manufacturing unit budget and forecasts all Capital Expenditure and
  • Fixed Cost proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards.
  • Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects.
  • Hold responsibility for the Manufacturing Budget

 

Leadership and Management

  • Provide strategic leadership to the manufacturing team, setting clear objectives and goals aligned with organizational vision and objectives.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of manufacturing operations, including production planning, process optimization, and resource management.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration within the manufacturing workforce.
  • Lead and develop a large multidisciplinary team, ensuring effective communication, training, and development opportunities

 

Manufacturing Excellence

  • Provide thought leadership and guidance in the design and construction of new assets.
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive manufacturing excellence, focusing on improving efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and track manufacturing performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Implement best practices in operational processes, equipment maintenance, and quality management to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry requirements.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance sustainability and environmental stewardship across manufacturing operations.

Operations

  • Oversee Integrated Business Planning (IBP) processes ensure that supply chain schedules are aligned and production.
  • Ensure Engineering standards incorporates EHS protocols
  • Primary liaison with engineering regulators
  • Is accountable for creating and embedding a Safety culture

 

Strategic Relationships       

  • Develop and execute strategies to expand the business, including market analysis, entry strategies, and partnership development.
  • Identify new opportunities for market expansion and penetration, leveraging existing strengths and capabilities in manufacturing.
  • Collaborate closely with global sales, marketing, finance, supply chain and R&D teams to tailor products and services to meet the unique needs and preferences of desired markets.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, customers, and partners in target regions to support business growth and market development.
  • Effective leadership in a global matrix organisation

 

Asset Management and Engineering Oversight

  • Assume a leadership role in managing industrial assets, including equipment, facilities, and infrastructure, to optimize performance, reliability, and lifespan.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to ensure the efficient operation and upkeep of manufacturing assets, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
  • Oversee large capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, from conceptualization to execution, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, budgetary constraints, and regulatory requirements.

 

People Management

  • Build a strong and cohesive team by recruiting top talent internationally and creating an inclusive work environment
  • Promote a culture that supports high performance through performance management and employee engagement
  • Mentoring, coaching and developing of the team

Qualifications and expertise required (or equivalent)

 

Education / Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Process, and Chemical)
  • A postgraduate commercial qualification would be advantageous.

 

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing industrial manufacturing operations, with a focus on Chemicals or Explosives production.
  • At least 10 years of senior management experience, demonstrating progressively increasing levels of responsibility and leadership.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of success in managing major hazardous installations, asset management, and overseeing large CAPEX projects.
  • Strong background in engineering, industrial equipment management, and plant maintenance strategies.
  • Experience in handling overall production unit right from Planning to Delivery
  • Experience in managing MHI’s and NKP’s, and a proven ability to drive manufacturing excellence to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.
  • Must have experience in managing multiple manufacturing sites in different geographies and having experience in leading a large workforce of at least 600+ employees.
