This role is designed to provide technical support for AECI electronic initiation systems for surface and underground mining operations. This will include blasting systems roll out, training, commissioning and problem solving on both networks and system/product performance. The incumbent must also be familiar with the blasting practices and the operation and function of blasting systems for the development of relevant training material.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide global technical support to AECI Mining for all Electronic Initiation Systems.
  • Deliver training on all electronic initiating systems, including (but not limited to) system setup, operation, fault finding, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical advice and support to clients, internal personnel, and end users on the correct use of electronic initiating systems.
  • Support and advise on advanced blasting applications.
  • Conduct investigations into product-related issues and provide clear recommendations based on findings.
  • Perform periodic hardware and software audits on electronic initiating equipment.
  • Assist with product qualification, laboratory testing, and field trials, including the completion of relevant risk assessments for practical field applications.
  • Perform hardware and software upgrades at client sites as required.
  • Support laboratory and engineering teams by identifying product issues and conducting risk assessments when new hardware or software is being piloted, including participation in trials.
  • Act as a key point of customer liaison for all matters relating to electronic initiating systems.
  • Ensure compliance with governance, quality, and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Comply with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards and requirements.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Engineering Degree or Diploma (Electronic, Electrical, Computer, or Mining Engineering)
  • Explosives Engineering qualification advantageous
  • 1–3 years’ experience in a technical or field support role (mining experience advantageous)
  • Sound product and technical electronics knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of installation, commissioning, and fault finding of network and electrical systems
  • Knowledge of training principles and techniques
  • Medically fit for mine site work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to ±70%)
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Valid Passport
