SHEQ Practitioner

AECI Plant Health is seeking an experienced SHEQ Practitioner to drive effective Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) risk management and continuous improvement towards Zero Harm. The role is responsible for implementing SHEQ strategies, ensuring compliance with legal and management system requirements, and enabling SHEQ competence across operations and distribution networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and monitor SHEQ risk management processes, controls and improvement initiatives.

  • Lead and participate in incident, accident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Conduct internal and external audits and inspections in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with SHEQ legislation, standards, policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate and deliver SHEQ training, inductions and competency development.

  • Maintain SHEQ management systems, documentation, reporting and statistics.

  • Oversee contractor SHEQ compliance and performance.

  • Support emergency preparedness, inspections and management review processes.

  • Supervise and develop staff under area of responsibility where applicable.

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 with a relevant post-matric qualification in Safety, Environmental, Engineering or equivalent.

  • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 qualifications, including auditing certification.

  • 5–8 years’ experience in a chemical operating environment; agrochemical experience advantageous.

  • Strong working knowledge of SHEQ legislation, risk management and incident investigation.

  • Proven ability to analyse data, prepare reports and drive corrective actions.

  • Strong communication, coaching and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Computer literacy (MS Office); working knowledge of Syspro.

  • Valid driver’s licence, own reliable transport and willingness to travel.
