Purpose of the Job
Providing technical expertise and value adding blasting services to customers to support company’s strategic thrust into value added premium markets.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Technical Knowledge
- Competent operation of technical blasting tools
- Interpretation of blast design data for safe and efficient blasting
- Communication of blast design data to supervisor/customer/ subcontractor
- Responsible for logistics of supply of explosives products for blasting operations at allocated sites
- Responsible for safe blasting process
- Extensive understanding of all the modules that make up the blasting competency program
2. Administrative Support
- Blasting assessments on a weekly basis on the operators and assistants
- Monthly reports on the business, supply, delivery and usage of product
- Conducts post blast evaluation
- Gathering information from various sources to determine the viability of the business
- The incumbent should use his initiative to extract information to provide management with information that could further assist them in management decisions
3. Safety
- Operate in a safe and efficient manner at company and customer sites
- Be prepared to halt operations when its unsafe.
4. Customer service
- Identifies and analysis opportunities for value adding services to improve customer operations
- Interfacing with the technical projects team, accountable for all technical projects on site
- Deal with management at all levels in the organization
- Problem solving as well as decision making both in on bench conditions and customer enquiries are critical at all times
5. Documentation and Compliance
- Maintaining world-class document control standards.
- Ensuring all contractor packs are up to date and compliant with mines requirements.
6. Communication & Coordination
- Acting as a point of contact between staff, management, and external parties
- Supporting team projects and deadlines
- Handling confidential information professionally
Education / Qualifications Required
- Minimum: At least 3 to 5 years relevant mining and blasting experience
- Experience using Intelishot electronic equipment
- Driver’s license - Any driver’s license from code B will be considered (Code B/C/E)
- Surface blasting certificate or ticket is essential
- Mechanical aptitude
- Advantageous: Diploma in Explosives Technology
- Be able to complete the AECI Explosives Engineers – must have completed Surface part of the course
