JOB PROFILE
Technical Engineer
1. Job Purpose
To provide technical engineering support to AECI Operations within the areas of Process Technology, Quality Engineering, and Manufacturing Systems Engineering. The role ensures the entrenchment and continuous improvement of the AECI Quality Management System in compliance with ISO 9000 standards, while supporting safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
2. Key Responsibilities / Outputs
2.1 Process Technology Support
- Provide technical input to optimise plant processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Support troubleshooting of process deviations and production inefficiencies.
- Ensure stable and reliable production processes through technical intervention.
2.2 Quality Engineering
- Support implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9000 Quality Management System.
- Monitor product and process quality performance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Investigate deviations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
2.3 Manufacturing Systems Engineering
- Support design, implementation, and optimisation of manufacturing systems and processes.
- Contribute to standardisation of engineering and operational practices.
- Ensure alignment of systems with operational, safety, and quality requirements.
2.4 Continuous Improvement
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Support productivity improvement, cost reduction, and waste elimination initiatives.
2.5 Technical Projects
- Initiate, support, and execute engineering and technical projects.
- Ensure delivery within scope, cost, and time constraints.
- Provide technical input into capital and improvement projects.
2.6 Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect, analyse, and interpret technical and quality data.
- Prepare reports to support operational decision-making.
- Monitor KPIs and recommend corrective actions.
2.7 Governance, Compliance & Quality Systems
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9000 and internal governance frameworks.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Support internal and external audits and close out findings.
2.8 Safety, Health, Environment & Risk
- Comply with SHE standards and applicable legislation (Explosives Act, OHS Act).
- Participate in risk assessments and implement mitigation actions.
- Promote a strong safety culture and safe working practices.
2.9 Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, and quality teams.
- Provide technical guidance across cross-functional teams.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships.
3. Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Requirements
3.1 Qualifications
- National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Additional certification in Quality Management, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma will be an advantage.
3.2 Experience
- 2–3 years’ experience in a chemical, explosives, mining, or manufacturing environment.
- Experience in technical project execution and process optimisation.
- Exposure to quality management systems and operational support functions.
3.3 Technical Knowledge
- Engineering principles within a process manufacturing environment.
- ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems.
- Understanding of Explosives Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act), and related regulations.
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Manufacturing systems and process control fundamentals.
- Basic understanding of asset care and reliability principles.
3.4 Technical Skills
- Data analysis and interpretation (process and quality data).
- Problem-solving and root cause analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Working knowledge of engineering design tools such as AutoCAD or Visio.
- Report writing and technical documentation.
