Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the position is to support the Group Corporate Project’s Department with delivering projects which are in line to Business and Strategic priorities. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing multiple projects of varying complexities, with multi-disciplined and cross-functional teams. Effective engagement with key internal and external stakeholders are integral to provide the integrated business solutions required to deliver on the organisational strategic initiatives
Roles and Responsibilities
- Support the Group Corporate Projects Department in coordinating the capital budgeting process, ensuring project definitions from Business Units align with organisational strategic goals.
- Lead projects from initiation to implementation, including pre‑feasibility, feasibility, design, execution, and close‑out.
- Establish project requirements, priorities, and timelines by engaging stakeholders, managing inputs, and producing well‑defined user requirements, scopes of work, accurate schedules, and cost estimates.
- Develop appropriate execution strategies (in‑house, semi‑turnkey, turnkey) based on project complexity, risk, resource requirements, business priorities, and investment appetite.
- Ensure all project management documentation, controls, and monitoring systems are in place to enable on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
- Apply strong technical understanding of engineering deliverables across all project phases, implementing controls to ensure compliance with best practices.
- Oversee project risk assessments, HAZOPs, and constructability reviews, ensuring proper documentation and stakeholder involvement.
- Utilise in‑depth knowledge across Engineering, Procurement, Finance, Quality, and Contract Management (including FIDIC).
- Report on project progress, cost, schedule, risks, mitigation actions, and governance at Committees and Integrated Business Planning forums.
- Manage a portfolio of projects for one or more Business Units, including potential international projects.
- Prepare business cases and position papers for Executive Committee and Board approval.
- Make informed, confident decisions based on expertise, experience, and input from internal stakeholders, external partners, and subject‑matter experts.
- Implement project management systems and tools for effective tracking, monitoring, and control.
- Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in full alignment with approved stakeholder requirements and business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with AECI guidelines, policies, and procedures; where standards are unavailable, apply global best practices.
- Coordinate resources across multiple projects, including staff, equipment, vendors, contractors, and consultants.
- Manage budgets, assess and mitigate risks, and adjust resource plans and priorities as needed.
- Ensure adherence to Safety, Health, Environment, Procurement, and Contractual requirements.
- Drive the development and training of project management and engineering standards within the organisation.
- Apply lateral thinking and innovative problem‑solving to address complex business challenges.
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with external suppliers, contractors, and professional service providers with the necessary expertise to support project delivery.
- Contribute to the development and rollout of standardised project management documentation across AECI.
- Participate in updates to project governance procedures and support their implementation across the organisation.
- Oversee master schedules, cost management, and project execution strategies.
- Manage relationships with contractors, suppliers, internal stakeholders, and external partners
Qualifications and Experience
- BScEng/BEng (Hons) in Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering. Postgraduate qualification in engineering may be advantageous
- Postgraduate Qualification in Management or Project Management
- Preference will be given to candidates that have 10-20 years’ proven experience in managing multiple projects of varying complexities (wide range of project types)
- Preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated experience in leading and successfully delivering complex multidisciplinary projects from initiation to completion
- Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing standards for best engineering and project management practices
- Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing project management tools and systems
- Self-motivated and driven with a key focus on adding value through the on-time delivery of strategic projects
- Deliver results through quality and safety awareness, planning and organizing, decision making and execution to readily deliver value
- Firm understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Demonstrated Project Management track record, and ability to manage multiple projects with collaboration of internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent writing skills – Technical Reports and Business Cases
- Excellent command of the English Language
