Senior Operator: BulkStore

Purpose of the Role

To oversee the safe storage, handling, monitoring, and dispatch of ammonium nitrate products within the Bulkstore facility. The role is responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and effective coordination of daily Bulkstore activities. The incumbent will support continuous and reliable plant operations in accordance with approved operational procedures and company standards.

Key Performance Areas

1. Operational Control

• Monitor and control daily Bulkstore operations to ensure the safe and efficient handling of ammonium nitrate products.
• Coordinate product receiving, storage, transfer, loading, and dispatch activities in line with operational procedures.
• Ensure production and operational targets are achieved while minimising downtime and operational disruptions.
• Support shift operations and maintain effective communication during shift handovers.

2. Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Compliance

• Comply with and enforce all SHEQ policies, procedures, standards, and legal requirements.
• Conduct routine safety inspections and proactively identify hazards and operational risks within the Bulkstore area.
• Ensure the safe handling and storage of hazardous materials and ammonium nitrate products.
• Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, incident investigations, and emergency response activities.

3. Equipment Monitoring and Maintenance Support

• Monitor the condition and performance of Bulkstore equipment, machinery, and systems.
• Identify operational abnormalities, defects, and equipment breakdowns, and report them promptly.
• Support maintenance teams during planned maintenance, shutdowns, and repair activities.
• Ensure all equipment is operated in accordance with standard operating procedures and safety standards.

4. Reporting and Documentation

• Maintain accurate operational records, stock levels, shift reports, inspection checklists, and incident reports.
• Complete all required documentation related to production activities, inspections, and equipment monitoring.
• Communicate operational information accurately and timeously to supervisors and relevant departments.
• Support compliance and audit requirements through proper record keeping and documentation control.

5. Housekeeping and Operational Discipline

• Maintain high housekeeping standards within the Bulkstore and surrounding operational areas.
• Ensure work areas remain clean, organised, and free from safety hazards.
• Promote operational discipline and adherence to company procedures among team members.
• Ensure the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with workplace rules and standards.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Education / Qualifications

• Matric
• N2 – N3 in Process or Chemical Operations
• Valid Forklift Licence
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience within a Bulkstore, chemical, manufacturing, or ammonium nitrate production environment.
• Proven experience in bulk material handling, storage, loading, and dispatch operations.
• Experience working in shift-based operations and high-pressure production environments.
