Purpose of Job
To ensure that all operations comply with Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality legislation, standards, and company policies, by proactively identifying risks, implementing controls, monitoring performance, and promoting a strong SHEQ culture across the organization.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Implement Group SHEQ strategy
- Maintain company’s total recordable injury rate
- Embedding Life Saving Behaviours (LSB) and Critical Saving Behaviours (CSB)
- Compliance to all applicable legislative requirements
- Contractor management
- Implement and monitor Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Identify workplace hazards and conduct risk assessments
- Ensure effective risk control measures are implemented and maintained
- Promote a safe and healthy working environment for employees and contractors
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
- Conduct root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions
- Track and monitor closure of incident action plans
- Compile incident reports and communicate lessons learned
- Conduct regular SHEQ inspections and observations at Tenant and contractor sites and compile reports
- Conduct tenant audits
- Manage emergency equipment and G rooms for all Modderfontein AECI Property Services (APS) areas, Chempark and Moddercrest sites
- Participate in Group ad-hoc Committees and Forums on behalf of APS
- Support Site Manager and technical teams of EHS matters
- Monitor SHEQ performance indicators and trends
- Compile monthly and ad‑hoc SHEQ reports
- Monitor contractor compliance with SHEQ requirements including onsite SHE file audit, critical control verifications
- Conduct contractor inductions and site audits
- Support management and employees on SHEQ matters
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma or Degree in Safety Management
- Professional Registration such Association of Professional Construction Managers Consultants(APCMC) or South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH)
- 3–5 years’ hands‑on SHEQ experience in a chemical operating environment
