Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Process Controller to join our operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and optimising nitrate production processes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant plant operations. This role plays a critical part in achieving production targets, maintaining product quality, and driving operational excellence while upholding the highest safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control nitrate production processes using SCADA/DCS systems.
  • Adjust process parameters to maintain product quality and process efficiency.
  • Analyse process data and trends, identify deviations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) requirements, company policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments, report hazards, and participate in incident investigations.
  • Support a proactive safety culture and continuous risk management initiatives.
  • Ensure production targets are achieved in terms of quality, quantity, and timelines.
  • Implement process control strategies to reduce waste and optimise energy consumption.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance teams to maintain product specifications.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve process-related issues and equipment inefficiencies.
  • Participate in process optimisation projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, logs, and shift reports.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly performance reports.
  • Ensure compliance with operational procedures and audit requirements.
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Laboratory teams to achieve production objectives.
  • Support the training and development of junior employees and shift team members.
  • Contribute to cross-functional projects and operational improvement initiatives.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Matric / NQF Level 4 in Chemical Operations OR National Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in chemical or nitrate production operations.
  • Proven experience in process optimisation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical/nitrate production processes.
  • Sound understanding of process safety, risk assessment, and environmental compliance.
  • Proficiency in SCADA/DCS systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work safely, follow procedures, and maintain operational compliance.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
