Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide technical process engineering support and project coordination across the full project lifecycle for plant modification and optimisation initiatives.
The role ensures that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with governance requirements, while maintaining strong documentation control and technical oversight from concept through commissioning and operational handover.
Key Accountabilities
1. Project Engineering Support
Provide technical engineering support for plant optimisation and modification projects, ensuring designs and specifications align with operational requirements and safety standards.
2. Project Lifecycle Coordination
Support the full project lifecycle including:
- Feasibility and concept development
- Detailed design and engineering review
- Procurement and contractor coordination
- Construction oversight
- Commissioning and operational handover
3. Technical Documentation and Governance
Ensure the preparation, review, and management of key technical and governance documentation including:
- Project Charters
- Feasibility Studies
- PFDs and P&IDs
- Risk Assessments
- HAZOP documentation
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Commissioning and validation documentation
4. Compliance and Safety Assurance
Ensure all engineering and project activities comply with:
- Internal governance procedures
- Safety regulations
- Environmental standards
- Engineering best practices
5. Risk Identification and Management
Proactively identify engineering, process, and operational risks during project development and implementation and escalate mitigation measures where necessary.
6. Stakeholder Coordination
Act as a technical liaison between:
- Projects team
- Operations and maintenance teams
- Procurement
- External service providers and contractors
- Ensure alignment across project stakeholders.
7. Project Reporting
Prepare and maintain technical progress reports, ensuring accurate tracking of:
- Project milestones
- Technical deliverables
- Project risks
- Implementation progress
8. Knowledge Management
Capture and document project learnings and technical knowledge to strengthen internal capability and support future optimisation initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
- Government Certificate of Competence (GCC) will be advantageous
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a process plant, chemical manufacturing, or mining environment
- Graduate Engineer with 3 years related experience, or
- Master’s Degree graduate with 1 – 2 years related experience
- Proven exposure to project engineering or plant optimisation projects
- Experience with process design documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, HAZOP, MOC)
