Job Purpose
To load, set up, and operate CNC machines to manufacture fit-for-purpose parts and tooling in accordance with technical drawings, quality standards, and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation & Setup
-
Set up, load, and operate CNC machines (turning, milling, and related equipment).

Interpret and work from engineering drawings, technical specifications, and job cards.

Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, and cutting parameters.

Perform first-off inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy before full production runs.
-
Monitor machine performance and adjust offsets where required.
2. Quality Control
-
Measure and inspect components using precision measuring instruments (verniers, micrometers, bore gauges, etc.).

Ensure all manufactured components meet specified tolerances and quality standards.

Complete quality documentation and inspection reports.
-
Identify and report non-conformances immediately.
3. Maintenance & Housekeeping
-
Conduct routine machine checks and basic preventative maintenance.

Report machine faults or abnormalities to the Supervisor.
-
Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with housekeeping standards.
4. Safety & Compliance
-
Adhere to all safety regulations, workshop procedures, and company policies.
-
Use appropriate PPE at all times.
-
Participate in toolbox talks and safety initiatives.
-
Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and operational standards.
5. Continuous Improvement
-
Identify opportunities to improve machining efficiency and reduce waste.
-
Support lean manufacturing and cost-saving initiatives.
-
Assist in training junior artisans or apprentices where required.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
-
Grade 12 / Matric.
-
Trade Test Certificate (Turner/Machinist) or equivalent qualification.
-
CNC programming certification (advantageous).
Experience
-
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience operating CNC machines in a workshop or manufacturing environment.

Experience in precision machining and tooling production.
-
Experience in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
Technical Competencies
-
Knowledge of CNC programming (Fanuc/Siemens or similar control systems).

Understanding of machining processes (turning, milling, drilling, grinding).
-
Knowledge of tooling, materials, and cutting techniques.
-
Ability to use precision measuring instruments.

Basic computer literacy.
