Purpose of the Job

 

To drive effective Modderfontein Optimisation CAPEX management, accounting, and reporting, ensuring compliance with financial policies and standards while maintaining the integrity of the fixed asset register. The role provides oversight of the project portfolio, manages the capital project pipeline, and ensures accurate tracking and capitalisation of projects. It delivers timely financial insights and actively influences stakeholders to prioritise investments that maximise strategic value and financial returns.

 

 

Required outputs: Functional

 

  • Define and structure project plans, including project tasks, milestones, and resource requirements
  • Conduct regular project reviews and post-implementation evaluations to assess performance and outcomes
  • Support the AECI entity budgeting process in alignment with established AECI guidelines and principles
  • Monitor and control project expenditure against approved budgets, ensuring adherence to financial policies and procedures
  • Identify, assess, and proactively manage risks and uncertainties that may impact project delivery
  • Track and monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring appropriate mitigation actions are implemented
  • Track and analyse project costs to ensure delivery within approved financial parameters
  • Monitor and evaluate project performance against defined financial and quality metrics, ensuring alignment to approved plans
  • Track project execution against plans, ensuring timely delivery and financial discipline through continuous oversight Develop and maintain financial models to assess projects viability and support investment decisions
  • Ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained in compliance with relevant policies and accounting standards
  • Prepare monthly and year-to-date financial reports, including detailed variance analysis and actionable insights
  • Compile and deliver monthly management reporting packs within agreed timelines
  • Ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
  • Review financial reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities in a timely manner

  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support business and project decisions
  • Maintain accounting records through to draft financial statement stage
  • Engage with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to address regulatory and reporting requirements
  • Provide guidance on accounting matters and respond to financial queries from stakeholders
  • Review and maintain financial documentation to ensure accuracy and reflect current status
  • Establish effective communication channels and protocols
  • Communicate project objectives, status updates, and outcomes to stakeholders
  • Facilitate collaboration and information sharing among project team members
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to influence project prioritisation, ensuring focus on initiatives that deliver maximum strategic and financial value.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, audit requirements, and governance frameworks across all capital-related activities.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Requirements

 

  • BCom degree in accounting
  • BCom honours degree in accounting - advantageous
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Accountant
  • Financial Policies, Procedures, and Processes
  • Internationally Accepted Accounting Standards (IAAS)
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Management Accounting
