Job Purpose
To execute precision machining operations using conventional and/or CNC turning and milling equipment to manufacture, repair, and maintain mechanical components that support plant reliability and operational efficiency. The role ensures high-quality workmanship, reduced equipment downtime, and strict adherence to safety and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate conventional lathes and milling machines to manufacture components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret and read technical drawings, blueprints, and mechanical schematics accurately.
- Perform precision measurements using micrometers, verniers, dial gauges, and related instruments.
- Manufacture and refurbish mechanical components such as shafts, bushes, sleeves, couplings, brackets, and related parts.
- Conduct repairs on worn or damaged components to restore operational functionality.
- Perform fault-finding and problem-solving on plant mechanical equipment.
- Maintain machines and tooling in safe and optimal working condition.
- Support breakdown maintenance and shutdown activities when required.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in accordance with workshop procedures.
- Comply with SHE (Safety, Health & Environmental) standards and company policies at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Recognized Trade Test Certificate as Turner and/or Miller.
- N3–N6 Mechanical Engineering (advantageous).
- Valid driver’s license (if required by site).
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years post-trade experience in a manufacturing, mining, or heavy engineering environment.
- Experience working with conventional lathe and milling machines.
- CNC machining experience (advantageous).
- Experience in plant maintenance and breakdown repairs.

- Strong understanding of machining principles and tolerances.
- Ability to work with precision and attention to detail.

- Ability to work under pressure during breakdowns.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
