
Purpose of the Job
To ensure all general accounting transactions are processed and reconciliations are completed as per SLA and policy ensuring accurate reflection of the financial position, complying with all legal and internal requirements

Financial Accounting
|
- Perform month-end transactional activities e.g., review of adjustments, month-end closing procedures and recon preparation etc.
- Provide second-level support in terms of call and query handling across AECI.
- Review bank reconciliations prepared by the FSSC.
- Review, approve and post predefined manual journal entries and supporting documentation and narration to the journal (ensure journal entries are valid, accurate and complete).
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and follow up on long outstanding items.
- Prepare a monthly memorandum of balance sheet recon issues for review by the in-country team.
- Calculate the monthly license and service fees based on the established parameters.
- Ensure that invoices for internal recoveries from AECI subsidiaries are issued before the end of the month.
- Ensure timely submission of the monthly VAT return for AECI Mining Limited & timely cross-segmental postings.
- Ensure all invoices from AECI are accurately coded.
- Perform Cognos month-end transactional activities.

Intercompany Loan Accounts
|
- Maintain intercompany loan accounts.
- Oversee intercompany monthly confirmations.
- Oversee monthly intercompany reconciliations.
- Manage relationships with AECI subsidiaries.

Hedging Process
|
- Maintain the hedging process in line with AECI Treasury policy & ensure that all imports and exports are hedged accordingly on a weekly basis.
- Oversee treasury reconciliation and submit to AECI as per the deadline.
- Request the draw-in of FEC contracts by AECI for foreign payments and receipts.
- Request spot cover to be taken out by AECI for Rand payments.
- Ensure compliance with all legislation concerning SARB & accounting matters.

Treasury and Cash Management
|
- Follow up with FSSC on any outstanding bank reconciliation items.
- Inform FFSC of the minimum amounts required to open bank accounts in country.
- Liaise with banks on any queries.
- Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions.
- Manage monthly management accounts for a portfolio of internal and external customers.
- Correspond and interact with clients to obtain information required to complete tasks and to make them aware of filing deadlines and other obligations.
- Maintain operators in the various banking profiles and ensure compliance with AECI Banking policy.

Bank and Cash Management
|
- Capture loading of EFT payments i.e., non-vendor related payments.
- Release of EFT payments (not for the same country for which you have loaded payments).
- Process of non-vendor related payments in SAP.
- Conduct cash book processing and bank reconciliation preparation.
- Ensure all long outstanding and reconciling items on bank reconciliation are timeously cleared.
- Process petty cash transactions.
- Ensure petty cash books are reviewed and timeously signed off.
- Facilitate urgent payment requests.

Relationship Management
|
- Engage with stakeholders at an operational level to address any service delivery issues.
- Ensure attendance of monthly governance meetings.

Business Controls and Governance
|
- Comply with all legislation relating to IFRS.
- Identify internal control weaknesses and assist in developing and implementing improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with SLA criteria (specific to area of responsibility).
- Keep abreast on legal and regulatory issues relating to accounting matters.
- Comply with Safety, Health, and Environment standards.

Audit Coordination
|
- Review audit instructions and compile/prepare supporting documentation for the audit process.
- Resolve audit queries and discuss with internal / external auditor where required.

Requirements / Qualifications(Must)
- B Com degree or equivalent (Honours would be advantageous)
- Minimum 3- 5 years’ experience as an Accountant Articles (Advantageous)
- Ability to effectively utilize the various software applications included in Microsoft Office, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to understand and apply business concepts and principles to make informed decisions and achieve organisational goals.
- Sound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Knowledge of an ERP system, preferably SAP
