Mechanical Technician/Engineer

This role is designed to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mechanical assets across Nitrates plants, supporting uninterrupted production, optimizing equipment performance, and meeting operational and customer demands. The role provides hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventative interventions that minimize downtime, protect personnel and the environment, and contribute to overall plant efficiency and operational excellence.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on all mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance
  • Troubleshoot mechanical faults, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions
  • Maintain mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, and rotating equipment
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and process efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards during all maintenance activities
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including work orders, service reports, and equipment histories
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, and testing of new mechanical equipment
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize plant mechanical operations

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • National Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Trade certification or equivalent mechanical technical qualification is advantageous
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, and rotating equipment
  • Knowledge of preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance techniques
  • Familiarity with maintenance management systems, technical drawings, and documentation
  • Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations in a manufacturing or process environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Hands-on mechanical repair and maintenance skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
