The Machine Operator is responsible for operating, maintaining and troubleshooting machinery in a Production environment. The position is based in Lilongwe. The role involves setting up machines, monitoring operations and ensuring that product meets quality standards while adhering to safety protocols. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Machine Operation:  

    • Operate various type of machinery according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).  

  • Adjust settings as required to ensure optimal performance and product quality. 

 

  • Setup and Calibration: 

    • Set up machines by loading materials, configuring settings and performing test runs. 

    • Calibrate machines to meet specifications and production requirements. 

 

  • Monitoring: 

    • Continuously monitor machine operations to identify and address any issues or irregularities. 

    • Ensure machines run smoothly and efficiently throughout the production cycle. 

  

  • Maintenance: 

    • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on machinery. 

    • Report major malfunctions or equipment issues to Maintenance personnel and follow up on repairs. 

 

  • Quality Control: 

    • Inspect finished product for quality, ensuring that the product meets company standards and specifications. 

    • Document and report any defects or deviations. 

 

  • Occupational Safety and Compliance 

    • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines. 

    • Wear appropriate PPE (Protective Equipment) and maintain a clean and organised work area. 

 

  • Documentation: 

    • Maintain accurate records of machine operations, production outputs and maintenance activities. 

    • Complete necessary documentation for production runs and machine performance. 

 

  • Collaboration: 

    • Work closely with other team members including Supervisors and Quality Control staff to ensure efficient production and resolve any issues that arise. 

 

Qualification, Knowledge and Skill Requirements 

  • A holder of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) 

  • Certificate in Technical or vocational training in machinery advantageous 

  • At least 1-2 year’s hands-on work experience in operating machinery in a manufacturing or industrial setting 

  • Basic knowledge of machine operation, maintenance and repair 

  

Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Characteristics) 

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving abilities 

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints and production specifications 

  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift6 and move materials and perform repetitive tasks 

 

 The position reports into the Branch Manager at Lilongwe.
