Junior Lab Analyst

 

Overview

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting safe, accurate, and efficient laboratory operations through the collection, handling, and preparation of samples for analysis. The role ensures adherence to safety, health, environmental, and quality standards, including support of the ISO 17025 Quality Management System. The Laboratory Assistant plays a key role in maintaining high standards of housekeeping, sample integrity, equipment readiness, and waste management to enable seamless laboratory analysis and operational reliability.

 

Required outputs: Functional

  • Maintain a high standard of Quality and Safety when handling samples and performing housekeeping duties.
  • Support maintenance of the ISO 17025 Quality Management System.
  • Seamless collection of samples from the plant and delivery of samples for testing to the Analyst and Assistant Analysts.
  • On-time
  • Actively participate in maintenance of the Quality Management System.
  • Observe and follow safety, health, security and environmental policies and guidelines.
  • Housekeeping in the various sections of the laboratory.
  • Maintain a high standard of safety and quality in all activities.
  • Perform periodic stock-taking as required
  • Prepare necessary chemicals and solutions to enable seamless analysis
  • Perform basic checks and verification of functionality of test equipment and report as appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for safe handling of gas cylinders during delivery
  • Manage and coordinate waste disposal in the laboratory.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
  • Tertiary education in Chemistry / Science will be an advantage
  • Driver’s License (Code B)
  • Authorised and Qualified Magazine Master will be an advantage

 

Specific experience required
  • Previous laboratory experience will be an advantage

  • Knowledge of working with hazardous chemicals
  • Collaborating and co-operating
  • Good command of English (Read, Speak and Write)
  • Good organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Computer literacy is essential, particularly MS Excel, Word and Mail
