Head of Technical: Australia and Asia

AECI is seeking an experienced and highly credible Head of Technical – Australia & Asia to lead technical strategy, governance and execution across our regional operations in Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

This senior leadership role is responsible for ensuring AECI’s technical capabilities, products and systems deliver safe, compliant and commercially aligned outcomes for customers across the region.

About the Role

Reporting to the VP: Australia – Asia, the Head of Technical will provide strategic and functional leadership for all regional technical activities, including technical services, bulk technology, product chemistry, quality assurance and technical risk management.

Working closely with Country General Managers, commercial and operational leaders, this role plays a critical part in driving technical excellence, innovation and customer value across diverse and complex operating environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the regional technical strategy aligned to AECI’s business objectives
• Provide technical leadership and governance across Australia, Indonesia and PNG
• Oversee bulk explosives technology, product chemistry and technical systems
• Lead regional quality assurance frameworks and continuous improvement initiatives
• Provide high‑level technical support for customer blasting and product optimisation challenges
• Drive technical risk management, incident investigation and technical assurance activities
• Support regulatory compliance across explosives, dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals
• Build technical capability through coaching, mentoring and succession planning
• Drive innovation, standardisation and best practice sharing across the region

About You

You are a senior technical leader with deep industry credibility, strong commercial awareness and a proven ability to lead technical teams across multiple sites or countries. You bring sound judgment, a collaborative style and a passion for technical excellence and safety.

Qualifications & Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Mining, Engineering, Chemistry or a related discipline (preferred)
• Extensive operational and technical experience in mining, explosives or a closely related industry
• Strong knowledge of bulk explosives technology, product chemistry and quality systems
• Demonstrated experience managing technical risk, incidents and continuous improvement
• Proven ability to engage with customers and translate technical capability into value
• In‑depth knowledge of regulatory, statutory and quality frameworks across relevant jurisdictions
• Ability to obtain and maintain required licences and statutory clearances
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
