This role is designed to advise and support the Regional Manager responsible for various sites / areas with their customers in the mining explosives operations on the sustainment and implementation of the Company SHEQ standards, Risk and Compliance requirements by providing expert and functional expertise in relevant legal and company compliance with an innovative intervention to achieve world class SHEQ/Operational performance, while monitoring daily operational SHEQ compliance.
To develop, manage and maintain SHEQ activities in the mining explosives operations by providing general administrative support to operational personnel.
To ensure that mining explosives processes meet customer requirements and company standards.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Mining Provide high quality and professional support to mining explosives operations so that the staff has access to a dedicated, effective and efficient SHEQ Officer with strong administrative expertise.
- Be pro-active in all aspects of operational safety, efficient utilisation of the resources, continuous improvement initiatives
- Co-ordinate and arrange mining explosive operations SHEQ campaigns, SHE Committee meetings, SHE Representative meetings and departmental functions and SHEQ related events.
- Conduct monthly and annual safety audits, analyses, statistics and presentations.
- Provide input into risk assessments and hazard studies, Advice and facilitation.
- Develop relationships with suppliers and customers encouraging a proactive approach to identifying business opportunities and a collaboration approach
- Lead and drive safety training and awareness of company safety policies
- Comply with Safety, Health and Environment standards
- SHEQ initiatives conducted / participated in as per targets

- Works with contractors and service providers and maintain the contractor management processes.
- Responsible for ensuring that all legal appointments are in place that the company complies with all relevant SHE regulations.
- Conduct site and over inspection as per required, critical control verifications and behaviour-based observations.
- To continually monitor and adapt change or intervention technologies to improve SHEQ behaviour, attitudes and skills and enhance line SHEQ roles.
- To interpret and apply all legal requirements through the development and maintenance of systems and procedures and partake in all investigations relating to the function; responsible for the monitoring of all Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality issues and advise on corrective action where necessary i.e. the disposal of waste and remediation.
- To facilitate the process of Hazop studies (Risk Assessments) ensuring the elimination and mitigation of SHEQ and subsequent site risks.
- To participate with line management activities with reference to the company SHEQ manual standards (incl. LSB & CSB) and the adherence thereto.
- To advise and assist in the identification and implementation of corrective actions relating non-compliance legal and company standards.
- To assist line management in compiling SHEQ related training schedules and to provide or arrange for the provision of the identified training. This would relate to for example, clearance training, advanced driver training, environmental awareness training. Also to ensure that hard copy and systems record of such training are maintained.
- Develops safety programs /campaigns that will enhance a positive safety culture among the entire workforces.
- Maintain SHEQ Management system (e.g. ISO9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001) certifications through conducting departmental internal audits and ensuring that all findings are addressed.
- Coordinates and leads the incident investigations for all sites internal and customer related incidents, ensuring that root causes are identified and corrected to prevent recurrence.
- Reports monthly the company performance in relation to safety, health, environment and quality.
- Implements efficient document control to ensure that only valid documents are utilized across the whole organization.
- Ensures that all applicable occupational hygiene surveys are conducted to safeguard the safety and health of all employees.
- Works with contractors and service providers and maintain the contractor management processes.
- Responsible for ensuring that all legal appointments are in place that the company complies with all relevant SHE regulations.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Grade 12
- Safety Management Diploma or NQF equivalent.
- At least 3-5 years relevant experience within explosives and surface mining environment.
- At least 1-2 years’ experience of integrated SHEQ activities within the industry
- Valid driver’s license
- Sound working knowledge of SO9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Must be fully computer literate MS Office and would need to be possesses excellent presentation skills. (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook/MS Teams)
- Must be able to pass police clearance.
- Must be able to obtain a red ticket, (medical fitness) to visit surface mining sites.
