Maintenance Manager

Location: Jacobs (KZN)

Purpose of the job

• Head of maintenance & engineering related project works for Specialty Chemicals IVS & Jacobs.
• Directs the facility’s physical maintenance & equipment reliability to minimize downtime & control costs.
• Manage & oversee an Engineering Superintendent & Engineering Planner; manage budgets, ensure health & safety compliance, & transition strategies from reactive repairs to predictive & preventative maintenance programs.
• Involvement in all project related work & engage with other stakeholders to assist to enable execution.

Required Outputs Functions

• Maintain & repair of equipment; develop, implement, & optimize preventative & predictive maintenance strategies to extend asset lifespan.
• Sets budget for maintenance department; create & manage the departmental budget, track expenditures, & source cost-effective spare parts & tools.
• Prioritise maintenance work to be carried out within a limited budget & timeframe.
• Oversee & manage engineering sub-contractors; negotiate contracts & oversee external contractors for specialized maintenance & repairs.
• Highly involved in project related work and particular PSM requirements.
• Hire, train, schedule & mentor maintenance technicians & supervisors.
• Hire & oversee training & mentoring apprentices. 
• Ensure plant & machinery comply with legislative standards including being compliant with statutory & annual inspections. Manage robust presentative maintenance programme.
• Enforce workplace safety policies & ensure all work adheres to statutory & occupational health regulations.
• Provide weekly & monthly flash reports and statistics.

Requirements: Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12 (Matric/NSC).
• Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) qualification is mandatory.
• NHD or degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5 to 8+ years of maintenance experience with at least 3 years in a management or supervisory capacity.
• Knowledge of OPTO22 control systems is an advantage.
• Sound understanding of EHS legislation in relation to process equipment.
• Sound understanding of being able to interpret engineering text & related engineering drawings.
• Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical & plumbing (MEP) systems, alongside experience managing facility machine.
• Deep understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, & facility systems, alongside proficiency with CMMS software.
