AECI Plant Health is offering a Fitter Apprenticeship. The role provides a structured opportunity for an aspiring artisan to gain practical, on‑the‑job experience while developing the technical and safety‑focused competencies required within a manufacturing and chemical plant environment.
 

Key Responsibilities

The successful incumbent will be expected to:

  • Attend and successfully complete all required theoretical training, tests and assignments.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) requirements and site safety rules.
  • Assist with day‑to‑day mechanical breakdowns in line with job cards and instructions.
  • Support the planning and execution of preventative maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Assist with the installation of chemical processing equipment, including pumps, pipes, mechanical structures and agitators.
  • Support boiler maintenance, fabrication of steel structures, pipe fitting, welding repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with maintenance and basic repair work on electrical equipment under supervision.
  • Accurately complete job cards, maintenance records and reporting documentation.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards in the workshop and work areas.
  • Report safety incidents, near misses and hazards in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Perform any other related mechanical or maintenance duties as required by the team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 with a post‑matric qualification in Mechanical Fitting (NQF Level 3 or higher).
  • Awareness of MERSETA apprenticeship requirements.
  • Basic awareness of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Basic skills in the use of mechanical tools, measuring equipment, hand tools and power tools.
  • Prior exposure to a production, plant, workshop or chemical environment will be advantageous.
