Purpose of the Job

 

To supervise and safely perform blasting activities under the direction of the Field Services Superintendent.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

 

  • Safely carry out blasting operations
  • Supervise the Prime, Load, Tie and Shoot (PLTS) blasting operations team
  • Enforce controlled blasting at all times
  • Supervise explosives handling during transportation to and from the bench and also during charging
  • Implementation of blast designs, charging plans and timing plans
  • Blasting operations Legal appointment
  • Implement the company and client’s Safety, Health, Environment and Quality standards
  • Enforcement of the regulatory and statutory compliance
  • Assist with compilation of explosives returns and explosives inventory reconciliation
  • Implementation and enforcement of governance, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all the blasts are monitored for improved results
  • Safe keeping of the blasting tools and equipment

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • At least a Cambridge O’ Level/ BGCE certificate or equivalent
  • At least 6 years’ experience in a Prime, Load, Tie and Shoot (PLTS) Open Pit environment, at least three (3) of which were at a Blaster Level
  • Be in possession of valid driver’s License
  • Be in possession of a valid Open Pit Blasting Licence
  • Be a Botswana Citizen
  • Must be fluent in both Setswana and English
  • Knowledge of and experience in AECI electronic blasting products is an added advantage
  • Blasting technical knowledge
  • Good understanding of the Explosives Act and, the Mines, Works, Quarries and Machinery Act (MQWM) and other relevant legislative requirements
