Purpose of the Job
To supervise and safely perform blasting activities under the direction of the Field Services Superintendent.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Safely carry out blasting operations
- Supervise the Prime, Load, Tie and Shoot (PLTS) blasting operations team
- Enforce controlled blasting at all times
- Supervise explosives handling during transportation to and from the bench and also during charging
- Implementation of blast designs, charging plans and timing plans
- Blasting operations Legal appointment
- Implement the company and client’s Safety, Health, Environment and Quality standards
- Enforcement of the regulatory and statutory compliance
- Assist with compilation of explosives returns and explosives inventory reconciliation
- Implementation and enforcement of governance, policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all the blasts are monitored for improved results
- Safe keeping of the blasting tools and equipment
Qualifications and Experience
- At least a Cambridge O’ Level/ BGCE certificate or equivalent
- At least 6 years’ experience in a Prime, Load, Tie and Shoot (PLTS) Open Pit environment, at least three (3) of which were at a Blaster Level
- Be in possession of valid driver’s License
- Be in possession of a valid Open Pit Blasting Licence
- Be a Botswana Citizen
- Must be fluent in both Setswana and English
- Knowledge of and experience in AECI electronic blasting products is an added advantage
- Blasting technical knowledge
- Good understanding of the Explosives Act and, the Mines, Works, Quarries and Machinery Act (MQWM) and other relevant legislative requirements
