Purpose of the Job

  • To manage the Mining Services’ business within a designated region by managing and coordinating input resources for the delivery of explosives in line with QOTIF principles, facilitating specialized mining and blast engineering expertise and coordinating all elements of the sales and marketing function.
  • To perform and report on annual business planning thus ensuring efficient and effective management of finances, employees and assists in such a manner as to accomplish the objectives of the organisation.
  • To manage the various customer accounts as it pertains to all AECI operational sites within that account by managing and coordinating of resources, maintaining of systems and overseeing all elements of the sales and commercial functions whiles developing long-term relationships with portfolio of assigned customers, connecting with key business stakeholders and liaising between customers and cross-functional internal teams to ensure the timely and successful delivery of AECI solutions according to customer needs.

Role and Responsibilities

  • To contribute to and implement the Management/Leadership function of Mining services in the markets which entails being accountable for the long-term growth and profitability by leading AECI’s strategic thrust into the region
  • To assist in securing new business developments and maintain a dominant position within this strategically vital region.
  • To actively promote and manage the company’s vision and values by demonstrating a hands-on approach in the planning, leading, organizing and control of the region with the incumbents oversight.
  • To assist the Business Manager in the management of existing supply contracts, the compiling of tenders for new business and has input into the preparation for annual price negotiations for customers within the region.
  • To actively promote and manage the Company’s vision, purpose, values and goals including the SHE and Quality policies, systems and controls of AECI and the Customer within the catchment operational area and ensure compliance to AECI operational excellence, and relevant legislative bodies to the highest standards
  • To be accountable for the preparation and delivery for the defined regions sales, profit, operating and fixed costs budgets in order to meet set objectives
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external customers through customer visits/reviews to ensure sound business relations and continuous business operation.
  • To manage, lead and develop direct reports performance as well as career growth and development in collaboration with the human capital training department in line with company policy and procedures. Success in this regard will be measured by the suitability of his people, and their motivation and enthusiasm remaining in the employment of AECI.
  • To communicate timely and clearly to internal and external stakeholders any potential breach of contract by notifying HOD and customers for instant action/remedy
  • To effectively manage customer stakeholder stock and exercise a firm control over company products and assets to ensure optimized returns to company
  • To ensure the timely and successful delivery of AECI solutions according to customer needs and objectives by ensuring AECI meets its contractual obligations relating to OTIF for product and service delivery whiles forecasting and tracking key account metrics
  • To perform any other duties within his/her competencies as the exigencies of the job require to ensure efficient and continuous business operations

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of a University degree or equivalent in a technical field (preferably Mining Engineering)
  • Minimum of 10 years working experience in open-pit mining and/or underground operations at the middle-management level
  • A Professional/statutory qualification as explosives engineer (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of blast performance assessment techniques and associated equipment
  • Knowledge of underground mining activities and dangerous working environments.
  • Knowledge of mine planning and operations including Drill and Blast.
  • Knowledge of mining equipment selection and performance.
  • Knowledge of all products and production facilities, AECI structure and markets.
  • An in-depth understanding of the legislations as applicable to the industry.
  • Must be a member of a relevant professional body
  • In-depth working knowledge and demonstration of financial and strategic management skills/concepts of financial and accounting management practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
  • Good customer relationship at all levels of management
  • Ability to interact with customers (external and internal) at all operational and management levels
  • Good sales and marketing skills/experience
  • Excellent negotiation and presentation skills
  • Competent in the Microsoft Office (esp. Word and Excel)
  • Familiarity with computer and engineering software applicable within mining-related industry
  • Problem solving and leadership skills and team spirit
  • Ability to meet deadlines, good problem solving skills and work with no or minimal supervision
